Safe Roof, Calm Heart

As the top guard, the roof must be installed and well maintained. Recognize the problems that often occur on the roof so that you can solve them immediately. Especially if your home is decades old. Roof problems will often occur, such as leaking roofs. When it rains often, of course this will make you anxious.

Actually, there are anticipatory steps that you can take. For example, checking the roof before the rainy season arrives, including the gutters and water channels. You can also take enough time to fix the roof before the rain hits. If you check the roof from the start, the following common damages can be recognized.

The roof is not sloping enough

The ideal roof slope is around 30-40%. However, sometimes the construction of the roof is not right. In fact, sometimes for reasons of contemporary design, the roof of the house is deliberately made sloping. The risk of a sloping roof is certain, the flow of rainwater is not smooth. In fact, if the roof is built incorrectly so that it is concave, the possibility of stagnant water is always there. This stagnant water on the roof can cause water seepage and leaks. If the trigger for the roof leak is due to an imperfect roof design, there is no other way except to renovate or fix the roof.

Improper roof tiles

Tiles, asbestos, or zinc for the roof need to be arranged neatly so that they are tight and do not accommodate seepage or water seepage into the lower part of the roof. It is better to choose tiles made of materials that are not only of high quality, but also strong and durable. Quality roofing materials will minimize the risk of improper size or damage that can trigger leaks. It is better if the craftsman who installs the tiles is also expert and thorough so that the results of the tile installation do not open up space for leaks.

Age factor

The roof frame can rot. Tiles can break. Water pipes can rust. All due to age factors. If the age of the house and the materials used to build the house are more than 30 years old, it is natural for it to experience damage. For that, you also need to check the condition of the house if the house is classified as an old building. If some parts are worn and damaged, they should be replaced immediately so that the house stands strong and does not endanger the occupants inside.

Rainstorm

Cases of leaking houses due to damaged tiles due to rain are very possible. Especially if the rain is accompanied by strong winds and there are fallen trees that hit part of the house. This is indeed beyond expectations. Prevention is to plant trees that are at least 7 meters away from the house and make the roof of the house as sturdy as possible. If the house is damaged due to rain, repair it immediately.

Water channel problems

Roof leaks due to water channel or gutter problems often occur. Usually this leak is due to the size of the gutter that is not right, loose connections, and worn gutter conditions. For that, you also need to check the condition of the water channel regularly. Make sure there are no damaged parts, improper installation, or blockages that inhibit the flow of water in the gutter. If the water channel needs to be replaced due to wear and tear, replace it immediately before the leak gets worse.
