Choosing a Minimalist Home Canopy: Light Steel or Iron?

Nowadays, home canopies have become a major necessity. Almost every house has motorized vehicles, both cars and motorbikes, which incidentally require protection in the form of a roof that covers them. The canopy roof should have a strong and sturdy construction, durable and highly durable. Consumers must be smart and wise in choosing canopy materials for their homes, so it is absolutely essential for them to know the ins and outs of each canopy-forming material to be able to compare and choose the one that suits their needs.

For a minimalist home concept, of course consumers will also choose a minimalist canopy so that it matches and creates a high-value aesthetic. The two canopy materials that are currently favorites are iron and light steel. each provides a minimalist and beautiful canopy appearance. But what is the difference between these two materials? Below we will discuss one by one the advantages and disadvantages of iron canopies and light steel canopies.

Iron Canopy

This canopy uses hollow iron (iron pipe) as its frame. The construction of the iron canopy is quite simple and easy to install. In terms of strength against wind and earthquakes, iron canopies have almost the same strength as light steel canopies.

In terms of appearance, because of its thick size, it will look prettier than thinner mild steel. The drawback is that it rusts easily, so it must be painted and carried out regular maintenance.

However, there is also galvanized hollow iron, which is anti-rust and white in color, automatically the price is more expensive than ordinary hollow iron but the appearance is more beautiful. Making iron canopies requires welding, and is usually done in a workshop (production place), then taken to the consumer's home.

Light Steel Canopy

Unlike thick iron, this light steel canopy frame is very thin, only 0.6 – 1 mm. With a very light weight and a "fragile" appearance, this does not mean that mild steel is not stronger than iron.

Mild steel has a high tensile strength of G-550 Mpa, stronger than ordinary steel. Other advantages are that it is rustproof, fireproof, and almost does not experience expansion and shrinkage.

Thus it can be said that light steel canopies last longer than iron canopies. The price of light steel canopies is very economical, cheaper than the price of iron canopies. Plus, light steel canopies do not require maintenance like iron canopies, so you can save money on maintenance costs. For areas prone to earthquakes, a lightweight steel minimalist canopy is the right choice.

Basically, iron canopies and light steel canopies have almost the same strength. However, for those of you who have a limited budget, choosing a lightweight steel canopy is the best solution. By choosing a light steel canopy, not only can you save at the start, but also throughout use, because light steel does not require significant maintenance. The models of light steel canopies are quite diverse, with a choice of single or double frames and a choice of roof coverings ranging from go-green roofs, metal tiles to polycarbonate roofs.

Don't worry, light steel canopies can also look as beautiful as iron canopies, by using U-shaped adhesive joints and are designed to be double. One important thing is that you have to ensure that the installation of the light steel canopy complies with technical rules, so that no parts are chipped or scratched which could trigger the risk of corrosion. Therefore, it is better if you use professional light steel installation services, in order to get the best results.
